Library of Congress Rates and Terms for Webcasting
This is very important - regarding the RIAA attempting to charge webcasters a lot of money to play music.
Boycott the RIAA!
Note: if you think that this money is going to the artists, think again. Webcasters and broadcasters already
pay BMI and ASCAP fees which go to the artists. These fees are on top of those fees and go strictly
to the Recording Industry of America. These fees may lead to most webcasters shutting down because
they are charged per song, per listener, not as a percentage of the webcasters profit. Therefore non-profits,
such as WUSB will be hurt the most. And these fees are retroactive to 1998!!! For all we know we already
owe thousands of dollars to the RIAA. (yeah, non-profits would only have to pay 2 cents per song, per listener,
but we don't make any money to pay that; not to mention how much all the new files that must be kept make it impossible)
