INFORMATION
00000000000 This page contains
some general information about myself. It is intended to give some insight
as
00000000000 to what musical angle I am coming
from so that you may have a better idea as to whether your
00000000000 musical tastes are similar to mine
or not. My hope is that this will help to put my "reviews" into
00000000000 perspective. Please bear in mind
that what follows is very general and that my current musical
00000000000 tastes are much more diverse.
WHY RADIO?
00000000000 I prefer being a radio
DJ as opposed to spinning clubs because I feel that it allows me more
00000000000 freedom to play what I want. When
you spin at a club you practically have to play the same
00000000000 songs every week. It takes about
three weeks to introduce a song, then it is really popular for
00000000000 about six to eight weeks, and three
weeks later it is played out. The worst thing about most clubs
00000000000 is that they don't stop once a song
is played out - rather it seems they continue playing it for the
00000000000 next five years. (this is why I only
go to shows nowadays).
00000000000 The best thing about radio is that
if a listener doesn't like what you are playing they can just change
00000000000 the station. At clubs there are often
many people who don't like the music but stay because they
00000000000 already paid to get in.
00000000000 I like being able to constantly play
new things so that my show never gets boring. The down side
00000000000 to this may be that songs aren't
"ingrained" in people's minds; I have two counter-arguments on this
00000000000 point. One - most of my listeners
tape my shows, which means that the "ingraining" process has
00000000000 ample opportunity to occur. Two -
one of the main reasons I wanted to make a web site was to
00000000000 lend some sense of "permanence"
to the music I play. This way people can look up information at
00000000000 any time. A good review or description
can have even more affect than a bi-weekly radio show. I
0 0000000000also
happen to believe that if you really like something you should go out and
buy it. I often express
00000000000 my enthusiasm for new bands over
the air and then tell the listeners that they should go out and buy
00000000000 it. I am a music addict, and I go
out of my way to find new bands. I spend hours searching the web
00000000000 for new bands, so I am always open
to suggestions for new bands. Send me mp3s!

And now will somebody please tell me why there haven't been any exceptional
new goth bands to arrive
on the scene since approximately 1995? It seems as though all the good ones
either died out or went metal.
All good new bands nowadays are either synthpop or electro; yes there have
been some great darkwave releases,
but only from bands that have been around for at least five years. In the
late 80's, early 90's there were all these new
Sisters and Fields clones that often surpassed the originals; what happened
to that little movement? Granted, I wouldn't
want to give up the unique cross-over style of bands like Suspiria, but I
really wouldn't mind some great new dancefloor
goth-rock.
Take this as a sign - if you know of a really good dancefloor goth-rock band
(think Sisters style) let me know.
Absolutely no metal stuff. That's not my thing and you'll be setting yourself
up for disappointment if you expect a positive response.
Actually I am interesed in new good bands of all different styles - darkwave,
electro, EBM, synthpop etc.
It's just that the lack of any great new goth-rock kind of irks me.
